The Pallet and Planter Challenge Results 2015

There were an excellent entries into this year’s Challenge. Last year we introduced Bronze, Silver and Gold Rosettes’ for our Planter garden entries. These seemed to be really well received. They reward the many groups and schools that make such an effort to produce an entertaining and colourful display, not to mention all the hard work growing the flowers and vegetables.

This year in the People’s Preferred Pallet  the public disagreed slightly with the judges but it was a close decision. Well done and thank you to the judges! For judging purposes the two main categories, Pallets and Planters are split into Organisations and Schools.

In total £550 worth of prizes were presented to 6 pallets, 6 planters and the winner of the People’s Prize –

So a massive ‘thank-you’ to all who took part, stewarded, helped, made the coffee (or poured the wine!) over the build up, break down and Show for 2015. Our volunteers come from local horticultural clubs, associations, colleges and many are simply bribed (normally only works once though!). As soon as the show was over there were emails from various groups asking for next year’s information.

We, the SGF, would like more clubs and societies to support this amazing competition which continually comes either first or second with the general public as one of the best visitor attractions at the show so please think about entering your own club or society – if a pallet is too big an undertaking you can enter a planter, alternatively get in touch and we would be pleased to have you help on the stand before, during or after the show.

I look forward to hearing from you.

John Smith (SGF Pallet and Planter Challenge Co-ordinator)
